praise to the almighty satan!

Recently I was involved in a discussion about religion, and about whether people have the right to tell the world that they are Christians and devoted to god, or muslems, or hindu, or whatever religion they are. The atheists’ opinion was that, although most had no issue with people being religious, they didn’t feel that those people should shout it across the world, and someone made the point that, if you were going to post topics saying, “praise to the lord jesus Christ”, you had just as much right to post topics saying “praise to the almighty satan”.

So, while while Satanism could be seen to be somewhat of a different type of religion to Christianity, it is a religion none the less, so, if Christians and other religious people have the right to express their love for their god, doesn’t it then necessarily follow that the satanists should be allowed to do the same?

while I agree that all groups should have the right to make thier views known to the general public at large. be they religious, political, environmental, or what ever. I do feel that in the quest for the right to be aloud to say what ever we feel at any given time. We have forgotten the rights of everyone else to have their views/ oppinions respected. I think the good old attitude of agreeing to dissagree needs to be payed a little more attention, and people need to remember that what is right for them, isn't necessarily right for everyone else.

I thought the biggest issue people, in general, had with satanist groups (and I am not well versed in those things so I may be wrong) are the sacrifices and orgies and whatever else is associated with their form of worship, a lot of which is inhumane treatment and on the verge of breaking the law, just vocal expression of such views or beliefs wouldn't bother me, it would bother me actually but I should not have a problem with it and really had no right to say that I did not like it puerly based on my religious beliefs.

I think satanism speaks for it's self. grin, lets give them all the free speech they want, most people probably a large majority won't bite that hook!

I think if religious folk should be allowed to tell the world what their religious beliefs are, anyone who is atheist or agnostic should be able to do so as well. I'm an agnostic and have no problem saying so.

So atheism makes you angry? Somebody want to do the math on this one, as I don't see the connection, and I have the impression this person thinks anger is a bad thing. I was told it was a perfectly healthy emotion, but what do I know? And I'm smiling when I say this, just so y'all don't get the impression I'm all pissed off or anything. Hahahaha!

Generalizations is what hurts people. A lot of people think pegganism is evil and/or satan worship, but it isn't. But with the spirot of the post. I also think any religion should be able to be openly discussed. As long as the worshippers are hurting no one; IE sacrifices, why shouldn't we accept each individuals personal choices. LOL, and I could say this about a lot of other topics too.

Witchcraft I agree and I wish people would do more research before ignorantly mouthing off in regard to Paganisim and/or Wicca.

Of course people have the right to discuss any religion, or lack thereof, as much as they like, but in their urgency to spread the message of "insert deity here", I find people forget about basic manners. It's socially unacceptable to harass casual acquaintances and even complete strangers if we think their grocery choice, parenting skills, fashion sense etc, is misguided and is in need of a sermon. Why are our religious choices any different? Surely they're even more of a private matter?

I agree. To me, spirituality is a very personal thing between yourself and your higher power. Nobody else can experience exactly what you experience. It's not a product to be sold on street corners like counterfeit Rolex watches. But it's not fashionable to believe in the old "live and let live" bit anymore. Today, it's more popular to say "it's my way or the highway" or "if you ain't fer me, you're again me." But then again, conformity is preferred over individuality anyhow. If most people had their way, we'd all be identical.

My opinion is this: I once was an atheist too. I only became a christian because a friend of mine "shouted her religion across the world". Or let's say it this way: They shouldn't tell everyone, no matter if he/she is interested or not. But if there is someone and you think "he might need something to rely on", you can try to talk about religion. Talk about it, but not force him. Nobody has the right to force religion on someone and nobody should run their mouth about religion without caring if the other person wants to hear it at all.

Insele did you feel pressure to believe did your friend make it impossible for you to be yourself..It sounds from your post that you feel angry at her behaviour..and maybe you regret accepting her religion .

No. She didn't make it impossible for me to be myself. In the opposite: She made me feel confortable. Otherwise I wouldn't believe in god now.

Hmm that's not how it came across still it's your life and your choice.

Post 18 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Saturday, 29-Oct-2005 6:05:00

Did it come across differently? No no she just talked about it without pressuring me and suddenly I wanted to get to know god. I know this is strange but it really happened She never forced me. My grandma however - she forced me, earlier. And that's why I never would force religion on others.
